no men behind the decks
In a very male dominated industry, my goal was to help create connections and collaborations with other women and non-binary people in the house music industry. I focused on DJs that spin mostly house music and met up with them individually. From these interviews, I decided to organize a set where we could all get to know each other, while doing what we love - DJing. We recorded a set in a venue in Brooklyn, where 6 of us, met and spun. Each DJ got to mix 3 tracks each, while the other DJs got to talk and dance.
I choose New York based DJs that play house music. My motivation was to build a community while helping benefit everyone’s career. As we all got together and got to know one another, we also got content that we’re all able to use to benefit our career.
I also identify as a New York based house DJ and feel the desire to connect more with people in this industry that don’t identify as men.
